Hardwood Flooring Maintenance

Q. How should I clean my hardwood floor?

A. Sweep, dust mop and/or vacuum the floors regularly. Hardwood floors also clean easily with a dry mop. A slightly damp mop may be used to mop up a spill, however, excessive moisture can lead to unwanted effects to your floor, such as cupping, buckling or cracking. Therefore, you should not use excessive amounts of water to clean your floors.  Instead, use professional cleaning products from recognised manufacturers, and maintain a protective finish by waxing or sealing periodically.

Q. How can I protect my floor from wear and tear?

A. You should implement a regular cleaning routine, and in some cases where desired use throw rugs, felt pads or plastic floor protectors on furniture.

Q. How do I keep my hardwood floor looking like new?

A. In order to maximize the durability and natural beauty of your hardwood flooring, we recommend the following practices:

Collect moisture, dirt, and other potentially damaging substances before they can damage your floor by placing doormats and rugs at entrances.

Use ‘soft’ cleaning methods and products - Dust mops, vacuums with soft accessories, and specifically developed hardwood cleaning products to keep your floor clean from dust, dirt or grit. Hardwood flooring is highly durable, but should not be treated with harsh cleaning methods, as this will inevitably cause more damage than good. Do not use detergents, abrasive cleansers, or corrosive chemicals to clean your floor.

Use only colourfast and non-scratch carpeting or felt pads on your hardwood floor. You should try to protect the floor from furniture legs and do not walk on the floor with high-heeled shoes, which can cause pressure marks.
